Boxer Mira Potkonen was the only Finnish Olympic competitor to win a medal in the games in Rio de Janeiro. Competing as a lightweight, she took the bronze in the 60 kilogram division.
Never before has Finland's medals table shown only a single entry.
In the Athens Games of 2004 Finnish athletes won two silvers and in London four years ago, two silver and one bronze. The all time high record goes far back in the history of the modern Olympic Games when Finns won 37 medals in Paris in 1924.
Finland also finished well behind its Nordic neighours in Rio. As of Saturday evening, Sweden had picked up 11 medals (2 gold, 6 silver, 3 bronze), Denmark 14 (1 gold, 6 silver, 7 bronze) and Norway 4 bronze medals.
