Foreigners’ ID Cards Soon to Differ by Colour

The identification cards of Finnish and foreign nationals will differ clearly in the future, reports the newspaper Aamulehti. Adult Finns' ID cards will be blue, while foreigners' will be brown.

ID cards of adult Finns can be used as travel documents, whereas the same is not true of ID cards of foreign nationals or minors, who are issued the card without a guardian’s consent. Making these cards look different would ease control work, notes the Tampere daily.

Minors’ ID cards are a slightly different colour from adult Finns’ even now, but in the future they will be purple.

New ID cards will also have added features to improve security. Old-style cards lack information regarding how long the document is valid.
