Fourth time's the charm for US air guitar champion

After scoring silver three times, an American fantasy guitarist finally clinched heavy-metal gold at this year's Air Guitar World Championship in northern Finland.

The American Matt "AIRistotle" Burns won the 2016 Air Guitar World Championship Friday night in Oulu, northern Finland, where the contest is held each year.

Burns is also the reigning champion in the USA. He finally won the world title after three years of second-place finishes in Oulu. Finland hosted the competition for the 21st time this year, but this time no Finns reached the final.

In second place was last year's winner, Kereel "Your Daddy" Blumenkrants of Russia. In third was Nicole "Mom Jeans Jeanie" Sevcik of USA, with two other Americans placing fourth and fifth.

Other competitors hailed from around Europe as well as Canada, New Zealand, Taiwan and Japan.

All finalists had to perform to a compulsory tune, "Speedin'" by Reckless Love. The Finnish 'merry metal' group started out as a Guns N' Roses cover band in Kuopio, eastern Finland, in 2001.
