Further Delay for Fifth Nuclear Reactor

Delays are reported in the construction on Finland's fifth commercial nuclear reactor. The third reactor at the Olkiluoto plant on Finland's west coast is expected to be complete at the end of 2010 or early 2011.

The previous estimate was that the installation would be ready sometime in 2010. The reassessment of the schedule comes after the equipment suppliers for the project have updated their own schedules for the supplier TVO.

The head of the project Martin Landtman says that the delays in the construction work and in the setting up of the main circulation pipes are affecting the timetable of the whole project. he says that TVO and equipment suppliers have increased their cooperation.

The construction work on the 1600 MW power plant began in the late winter of 2005 and the original schedule called for it to be generating electricity already in 2009.
