Large Crowds Greet Swedish Royals in Lahti and Helsinki

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, and her husband, Prince Daniel, are spending the day in the capital region on Tuesday. The young royal couple waved to well-wishers from the balcony of Helsinki’s City Hall shortly after 11 a.m.

A section of the North Esplanade was closed from 11 a.m. for approximately twenty minutes.

The day's agenda includes a visit to the "Happi" Youth Activity centre in the Sörnäinen district of Helsinki and attending the opening of a Finnish-Swedish business and industry seminar in Espoo.

On Monday, the royal duo met with President Tarja Halonen and her husband, Pentti Arajärvi, at the Mäntyniemi presidential residence.

Later, crowds teemed in Lahti to catch a glimpse of Victoria and Daniel. The chilly weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of onlookers outside Tiirismaa high school, where a sea of blue and yellow flags greeted the dapper royal pair.

The most eager residents arrived at Lahti's Sibelius Hall hours before the royal duo's scheduled appearance.

The couple's busy day culminated in a dinner held in their honour at the presidential palace in Helsinki. Victoria told dinner guests that she felt very much at home in Finland. The crown princess also extended thanks to Halonen for attending her wedding last June in Stockholm.

Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel arrived in Finland on Sunday evening and will return to Sweden on Wednesday.
