Mannerheim Animation Wins Prize at Tampere Film Festival

The controversial film "Uralin perhonen", or "Butterfly of the Urals", won the prize for best animation at the Tampere Film Festival.

The puppet animation caused something of an outcry in Finland for its depiction of Finland’s wartime military commander, Marshall C.G.E Mannerheim, as a homosexual.

The film premiered under police protection after the director Katariina Lillqvist had received death threats.

More than 29,000 people attended the festival, which concluded on Sunday.
