Computer giant Microsoft is opening an office in Tampere and building a team of up to 30 experts to work on hardware development for its Surface device line.

The unit, focusing on designing camera, imaging, electronics and wireless network tech, will work in close collaboration with its devices team in Redmond, Washington, USA, the company said in a statement.

"We are excited to be able to utilize Finnish excellence to take our products and the experiences they offer forward. We want to create new opportunities for both Microsoft and the local area, and recruitments for the Tampere product development unit are currently underway," said Pavan Davuluri, senior product development engineer at Microsoft Surface.

According to the online employment and business oriented platform Linkedin, Microsoft is advertising 29 positions in Tampere, for jobs including camera, imaging and optical tech engineers.
