Minister Calls for Doping Investigation

The Ministry of Education, which oversees sports, has called for the Finnish Ski Federation to respond to claims that Finnish cross-country skiers used doping, i.e. performance-enhancing drugs, in the 1990s.

Minister of Culture and Sport Stefan Wallin expects a full account from the Ski Federation on his table by May 5.

"We requested a report based on information that has surfaced in the media this week," said Wallin.

Channel Four news on Tuesday reported that illicit substance use among Finnish professional skiers was systematic in the 1990s.

The Finnish Ski Federation on Wednesday issued a statement that called for Channel Four to publicly disclose its insider sources.
