The Environment Ministry has ordered operational shutdowns and immediate inspections at all riding halls of the same design as the one that collapsed in Laukaa. The situation has left some hall owners wondering if now bankrupt construction company Nordic Hall should be liable to foot the bill for repairs.
Kiuru says that municipalities have been informed and are expected to enforce the ban and inspect the suspect facilities.
The architect who designed the Laukaa hall said that there are three other structures with the same design, in Äetsä, Pöytyä and Östersundom.
Kiuru said that the halls should be immediately inspected, and emphasised the owners’ own responsibility for safety. She has also called a meeting of construction industry operators to discuss operational safety at big riding halls.
