The royal couple will spend about an hour observing the race. They will lunch in Enontekiö before continuing to Kautokeino just across the border in Norway, where the Monegasques are to spend the night.

In Kautokeino, Prince Albert is to speak with reindeer herders about the challenges that climate change and industrialisation pose to reindeer husbandry. The prince will also speak on the same subjects as part of the World Indigenous Television Broadcasting Conference, according to the main organiser of the visit, the Association of World Reindeer Herders.

The Sámi Reindeer Herders Association of Finland will host the Enontekiö part of the royal visit.
