More horsemeat discoveries in Finland

The Pouttu, Vaasan and Fort Deli companies have found horse meat in products offered for sale in Finland. Some of Pouttu’s kebab meals were sold under Kesko’s 'Pirkka' brand.

Pouttu has recalled and suspended deliveries of the affected products, and said that they are incorrectly labelled.

Kesko has stopped sales of Pirkka products produced by Pouttu as a precaution.

The Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira said that despite the recalls, products containing horse meat are not dangerous.

Meanwhile Finland's Agriculture and Forestries Ministry said that firms must live up to their responsibilities over labelling of meat products.

"If self-regulation is found wanting, there could be criminal proceedings as a consequence," said Veli-Mikko Niemi of the ministry's food safety unit.
