NBI Flooded by Tips of Internet Threats

Dozens, perhaps hundreds of threatening Internet messages have been reported to the National Bureau of Investigation. This includes photographs, videos, as well as comments in chat rooms.

Chief criminal investigator of the NBI Jukka Mäkynen says that some of the tips have been handed off to local police for further inquiry.

"Every tip is taken very seriously and is being checked out," he says.

After Tuesday's shootings in Kauhajoki, the NBI intensified its surveillance of the Internet. More employees have been temporarily moved from their ordinary tasks to join those who are trolling websites and chat rooms, looking for potential threats.
