Niinistö Will Not Seek Other High-Ranking Posts

Defeated presidential hopeful Sauli Niinistö denied speculation that he would seek other high-ranking political posts in Finland.

On Monday he said he had no interest in becoming prime minister, for example. In fact, he said he had no plans to return to the grind of daily domestic politics.

Niinistö added that it was highly unlikely that he would run for president in six years’ time.

For the moment, he will return to Luxembourg to continue his job as a Vice President at the European Investment Bank until his tenure expires in September 2007.
