Peacekeeper Bribery Scandal Expands

A bribery scandal involving Finnish UN peacekeepers in Afghanistan has widened, as three more suspects have been confirmed.

Finnish defence headquarters suspects the three soldiers serving as peacekeepers of complacency, as they were aware of, but did not report bribes their fellow servicemen were taking.

Earlier this month, two former Finnish peacekeepers admitted in court to taking bribes from local contractors in Afghanistan between 2004 and 2006. The two are now facing prison sentences. A decision is to be handed down in their cases on Friday.
