PM to address nation in TV speech

In an unusual move, Prime Minister Juha Sipilä will address Finland on the country's difficult economic situation in a pre-recorded speech that will be broadcast on Yle's TV1 at 9.05 pm on Wednesday.

Following the airing of Prime Minister Juha Sipilä's pre-recorded state of the nation address on Wednesday evening at 9.05, his speech and Finland's economic difficulties will be discussed and analysed on the A-Studio talk show. The statement will also be aired on Yle Radio Suomi. It comes less than two days before widespread industrial action and demonstrations planned for Friday.

This marks the first such televised address by a Finnish premier since 1993, when Esko Aho - like Sipilä a Centre Party chair - spoke to the nation amid a deep recession.
