Police: Two in custody after Helsinki jewellery shop heist

Two men wearing motorcycle helmets robbed a Helsinki jewellery store Tuesday afternoon, but were caught by police shortly afterwards as they fled the scene.

Helsinki police said they have detained two suspects related to a robbery at Rubens jewellery store on Korkeavuorenkatu on Tuesday.

Just after 4:00 pm two men wearing motorcycle helmets entered the store and threatened the shopkeeper with violence, demanding to be handed over jewellery, according to police.

After robbing the shop, the suspects fled the scene but were apprehended nearby the store shortly afterwards, police said, adding that the value of the stolen jewellery was significant.

A bystander informed officers about the robbery just after it took place.
