Detective Inspector Jouni Niskanen said Thursday that police have completed a preliminary investigation into a Facebook post by Finns Party MP Juho Eerola on the grounds of suspected ethnic agitation.

Niskanen confirmed to the Finnish News Agency STT that the investigation had been completed and had been passed on to prosecutors for consideration of charges, but said that he would not comment further on the case.

Eerola said that police had interviewed him over the controversial post. The Finns Party MP had written on Facebook that he had spat at a Romanian beggar. He had also called Roma from Romania criminals.

Eerola is the party’s third deputy chair. He has denied committing an offence.
