Jalmari Helander's offbeat Christmas film -- which depicts a decidedly unjolly Santa Claus -- has attracted significant interest on the world stage and has been sold for release so far in Australia, Germany, the UK and the US.

It opened in New York on December 3, with a rollout in other American cities through the end of the year. The German premiere is on December 23.

In October, the Finnish film Napapiirin sankarit ( Lapland Odyssey) was watched by over 43,000 people over its first weekend after release.

The domestic film market has enjoyed a successful year. By the end of 2010 around two million film-goers will have gone to the cinema to see a film made in Finland.
