Helsinki police suspect the involvement of minors in a fatal stabbing incident at the central railway station on Monday evening, 19 April.

Police were called to the scene at 8.30pm following a complaint about a fight between around 10 people. The incident took place on the street level of a tunnel entrance between tracks 1 and 2 at the Kaisaniemi end of the station.

The 24-year-old stabbing victim died shortly after the first officers arrived at the scene.

"Police quickly caught up with some of the suspects at Malmi train station, where they had travelled by train after the events. The suspects in this murder are minors," detective inspector Jukka Larkio stated in a police press release.

Police added that as the preliminary investigation into the stabbing has only just been launched, the sequence of events is still being clarified, and Helsinki police welcome any eyewitness reports via email: vakivaltarikosyksikko.helsinki@poliisi.fi.
