Snow across the country, clear and cold to come

Thanks to recent bouts of wintry weather, much of the country is now covered in snow. Peak snowfall on Friday in Kuopio measured some 10 cm.

All of Finland is now covered in snow, with snowless ground currently an exception.

Yle meteorologist Toni Hellinen says that only the measuring stations in Åland, in the Hanko peninsula and at Kaisaniemi in Helsinki lack a distinct layer of the white stuff.

Southern and eastern regions were hit with flurries the hardest on Friday; in Kuopio and northern Uusimaa some 10 centimetres of snow fell from the sky.

"The weekend will be clearer, drier and colder nationwide," says Hellinen. "Eastern Finland will see some snow on Sunday night, but less than 5 centimetres' worth."
