SUPO researcher says extremists ready to commit violent acts

New research indicates that Finland should be prepared to deal with terrorist attacks of the kind perpetrated last year in Norway.

However, the report prepared by a Finnish Security Intelligence Service (SUPO) researcher notes that extreme groups in Finland have so far remained within the law.

Researcher Maria Paaso says there is evidence to show extreme groups exist in Finnish society. Texts similar to the manifest of Anders Behring Breivik have been published in Finland which Paaso says shows an ideological preparedness to commit violent acts.

She also points to the existence of lists containing the names of people promoting multiculturalism and instructions on how to commit violent strikes. An opposition to multiculturalism and perceiving Islam as a threat unites texts of the Brevik type and others published anonymously.
