A man suspected of murdering one person and injuring nine with a sabre at a vocational college in Kuopio, eastern Finland, went on trial on Tuesday.
Joel Marin, who was a student at the college, was charged with one count of murder, 20 counts of attempted murder, resisting a police officer, aggravated assault and one charge of vandalism.
The trial takes place in a temporary courtroom in central Kuopio.
Marin is accused of perpetrating the attack on business students in his class at the Savo vocational school premises in the Herman shopping centre in Kuopio.
Proceedings are public, but will be held behind closed doors when the court hears testimony about Marin's mental state and about the effects of the attack on the victims.
