More than a thousand new workers are needed at the Valmet Automotive plant in Uusikaupunki on the west coast to help produce the new Mercedes GLC SUV. The first phase of recruitment is opening now with around 250 positions to be filled.

The rest of the new employees will be recruited in around nine months' time, so that the payroll grows as production is ramped up. At the same time Valmet is taking on some 100 staff to help with planning and administration.

The factory has already taken on some 200 new workers this year, bringing the total workforce to more than 1,500 people. In addition, sub-contractors employ some 500 people.

By the time this recruitment phase is over, around 3,000 people will be working at the site. Production of the GLC model is slated to begin in early 2017.
