Wärtsilä to cut 183 jobs in Finland

Wärtsilä previously announced that it would be laying off 270 people in Finland as part of 550 jobs to be shed worldwide. As a result of co-determination talks, the power and marine systems company says the actual number of employees to lose their jobs in Finland is smaller than previously anticipated.

Power and marine systems company Wärtsilä previously announced that restructuring its organisation, operations and resources was necessary due to a weak market situation and a difficult competitive environment.

Since the start of the year Wärtsilä has also been troubled by reduced deliveries of its power systems and downward pressure on prices for power production.

The majority of the 183 employees who will lose their jobs work at the company's Vaasa location.
