Weekend Storm Puts Power Companies on Alert

Power companies in Finland are preparing for an autumn storm forecast to hit Finland this weekend. Fortum and Vattenfall say employees are on high alert for any electric outages that may occur.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute says winds at sea could reach 25 metres per second early Sunday morning. Later on Sunday, the stormy weather is expected to hit southern and central Finland and Oulu Province. Wind gusts of over 20 metres per second are in the forecast.

Fortum says it has five times the usual number of employees on duty this weekend. Vattenfall says it will keep customers up-to-date on the situation by email and text messages.
