Winter cold record broken again in Kilpisjärvi

The Meteorological Institute measured the coldest temperatures this year on Saturday night, when the mercury hit 37.4 degrees centigrade in Kilpisjärvi.

This weekend has now seen two winter cold records at Kilpisjärvi. First on Saturday morning the measuring station recorded -35.4 degrees, while on Saturday night the mercury hit 37.4 degrees.

There is no lack of snow in Kilpisjärvi either: right now the snowcover is 101 centimetres, which according to the Meteorological Institute is close to the all-time record.
