World Village Festival This Weekend

The World Village festival will be held in Helsinki’s Kaisaniemi park this weekend. The festival aims to celebrate diversity, offering glimpses of different cultures from around the world. The festival, which has been running since 1995, tries to draw attention to civil society organisations' work with an extensive factual programme alongside more conventional music and cultural activities.

The festival offers new perspectives on tolerant multiculturalism, development co-operation and global issues. It encourages vegetarian food, public transport and recycling.

Artists include afrobeat drummer Tony Allen and his collaborator Jimi Tenor, a cappella group Club for Five, Uzbek ethno-fusion combo SATO and Senegalese hip hop duo Daara J Family.

There will also be opportunities to participate in discussions on topics as diverse as Finnish aid policy or disabled children's rights, and to listen to authors from all corners of the globe discuss their work. There will also be an extensive children’s programme.

For more detailed information on the festival programme, visit the World Village festival website.
