Katainen Believes in Finnish Support for Portugal Bail-out Package

The Chair of the National Coalition Party, Jyrki Katainen, believes parties in the outgoing Finnish administration will continue to support the EU bail-out package for Portugal, even in the opposition ranks. Katainen will most likely start preliminary, informal discussions on the formation of a new government within the next few days.

Addressing his party’s governing body on Tuesday, Katainen said hoped for a spirit of compromise in forthcoming talks aimed at forming a new coalition government. He said he would hold discussions with all parties wishing to join a new administration.

Katainen received a standing ovation at the meeting. The rapturous applause started when he said the NCP had achieved its position as the largest party in Finland thanks to its steadfast and responsible policy line.
