The National Coalition party has already criticized the new minister’s previous statements on congetion charging, but according to Kyllönen there is nothing in the government programme that mandates the introduction of congestion charging.
The minister says that public transport would need to be improved before charging is introduced to ensure that all areas in the region are served by public transport. She does not see congestion charging as a high priority at present.
Civil servants will begin preparing a new report on options for transport policy in August. The report should be ready in the spring of 2012.
