No Duff beer for the Finns

If cartoon character Homer Simpson ever finds himself in Finland and thirsty, he'll have to make do without his favorite brew. Finnish officials have banned the sale of beer carrying the "Duff" brand label, saying that its association with The Simpsons animated series makes it potentially appealing to under-aged consumers.

The website of the beer's importer says that it is available at dozens of retail shops.

The National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health, Valvira, has imposed a ban on the sale of beer under the "Duff" band name and backed up the ban with a threat of a 50,000 euro fine.

Valvira says that the present packaging of the beer must be eliminated from active marketing no later than by next Friday. The move was made under provisions of alcohol laws that prohibit marketing targeted at under-aged consumers.

Sales of the beer carrying a "Duff" label will be banned as of the start of next year.
