Nearly 3,000 paper industry workers across Finland began a four-day strike starting Friday. The dispute centres mainly on overtime and compensation for travel time.
Members of the white-collar union Federation of Professional and Managerial Staff (YTN) and the Finnish Forest Industries Federation failed to reach an agreement on labour contracts on Thursday.
New talks have not yet been scheduled. Mid-level workers are calling for a new contract as they have been working without one since September 2009.
YTN also staged a half-day walkout on Friday last week.

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (NCP) said on Sunday that his government plans tougher penalties and other means to ensure that gang-related crime in Finland does not explode as it has in Sweden.
The Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors (JHL), the Trade Union Pro and the Industrial Union will all organise walkouts next Thursday.
