Consumer prices for food and non-alcoholic drinks are relatively high in Finland, the comparison of prices revealed.

Similar price levels to Finland were found in Austria, Ireland and Luxemburg.

Finland turned out to be the most expensive country in the EU when it came to alcoholic drinks. Finnish prices for the drinks are as much as 75 percent higher than the EU average, according to Statistics Finland. Alcoholic drinks were the least expensive in Bulgaria.

Statistics Finland notes that the big price disparities in alcohol are down to the countries’ different taxation policies.

Tobacco products in Finland are, however, sold at close to the average EU price. The most expensive EU countries for tobacco are Ireland and Britain.
