At around 20 years old, Tuomo was Sipilä's youngest child. A grief-striken Sipilä disclosed the tragic news in his blog:
“These are the heaviest words that I’ve ever written. Our dear son Tuomo unexpectedly died last night due to complications from surgery. In the midst of inconceivably deep grief, gratitude wells up to you, Tuomo, for your positivity and the joy that you brought us during your life that ended too early.”
Sipilä has interrupted his parliamentary election campaign due to the tragedy for now.
