Lovestruck boy pleads for help tracking down his summertime crush

The family of ten-year-old Edvin Hamberg from Sweden knew they had to act after the young Romeo spent all autumn pining for a girl he met on a ferry cruise. With little more than a name to go on - Elin - they turned to a Finnish newspaper for help finding the little girl in a blue dress with a flower in her hair.

At the Hamberg family home in Strömstad, Sweden, the mysterious, blonde-haired Elin has been a recurring topic of conversation ever since she and Edvin struck up a friendship on the boat from Finland to Umeå on July 19 last summer.

Eventually the ten-year-old grew so lovesick that the family contacted the Vasabladet newspaper in Western Finland, desperate for help locating the object of young Edvin’s affections.

“She was so beautiful. She felt special to me. I think of her every morning and every evening,” Edvin told Vasabladet.

The girl – whom Edvin believes is also around ten years old and lives in the Vaasa region – said her name was Elin, and was wearing a blue dress. She wore a flower in her long, blonde hair.

“I’d be so happy if you can help put me in touch with her,” Edvin pleaded in his email to the newspaper.

Media in Sweden have also lent their support to Edvin’s cause.
