Plywood mills in Lappeenranta and Heinola, as well as the Heinola sawmill and a refinery plant in Parkano, are to be shut down in the first half of this year.

The company adds that all sawmills and plywood mills in Finland can expect temporary closures and layoffs this year.

UPM began layoff talks in early November.

The number of job cuts is slightly lower than expected. Before the negotiations began, the company predicted that around 870 people might lose their jobs.
