Finland Could Host Skating Championships Instead of Japan

The earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan could bring the Figure Skating World Championships to Finland. The Finnish Skating Union has offered to host the rescheduled championships from 24 April to 1 May.

The championships were due to be held in Tokyo this week, but the ongoing nuclear crisis and emergency operation to repair infrastructure and assist survivors following the earthquake and tsunami made that impossible.

Seven other countries are also applying to be stand-in hosts for the championships. If Finland does get the championships, the 2016 championships will also be held in the country.
