Katainen: We've Made History

With the National Coalition Party gaining first place in Sunday's vote, party chairman Jyrki Katainen stated that history had been made. The National Coalition has never before been the single largest party in the Finnish Parliament.

"Accountability, rectitude, an orientation towards the future, and a positive air gained the trust of the people. Congratulations to us all," Katainen said to cheering party members on Sunday.

Katainen thanked competing party chairs for an honest campaign that can be used as a start for harmonious talks.

"Even though we clashed hard, it did not cross the limits for gentlemen and gentlewomen. There was no personal mudslinging and this is a good starting point for negotiations," stated Katainen.

"We can cooperate with any party, as long as the election results and a government programme make it possible."

According to Katainen, the issue of EU crisis supports that was named by the True Finns as a threshold question for participating in a cabinet is a matter that must be settled early in talks on government formation.
