The Croatian president visited Finland to discuss Croatia’s accession to the EU.

When asked by a Croatian reporter, Halonen said that she does not consider the election result and the True Finns’ victory to be a typical example of strong xenophobia, racism and opposition to the EU that occur in Western Europe.

"But there are such kinds of features there," Halonen said. "Every day we can read about people who have said something not very civilised concerning the people who have moved to Finland, or of different racial or cultural background."

“I take this very seriously,” Halonen stated.
