The winner note hails from year 1975. Paavo Huovinen designed the colourful note, which was launched for President Kekkonen’s 75th birthday.
The one mark banknote from 1963 shared the second place with the 1,000 mark note from 1986.
Altogether ten banknotes competed for the top spot in the voting, in which 30,000 Finns participated.
The history of the Finnish mark began in 1860, when Tsar Alexander II decreed the establishment of the Finnish Mint. The first Finnish banknotes were released that year, while coins followed four years later.
