Prime Minister Stubb attended the Paris unity march on Sunday, alongside leaders from all over the world and an unofficial attendance figure of more than a million people. Stubb emphasises the significance of the protest against terrorism and says that heads of state attending the march displays courage.
”It means a lot,” he said. “It is a demonstration for freedom of speech and the press, and against terrorism. I also think it is a courageous thing for some heads of government to do, because reactions like this were not seen in connection with the Jyllands-Posten drawings, for instance.”
The Prime Minister says he considers Finland’s anti-terrorism laws to be up to date.
”It is very important that no one respond to incidents like these with heavy-handed legislative amendments, which are simply a way of creating the illusion that all the problems have been solved,” Stubb said.
But Stubb also said that crime has penetrated the internet as well, which makes discussions on cyber security topical.
”Cyber security is one part of this situation and we have to be able to investigate it,” he said.
