Police had yet to apprehend the perpetrators on Friday afternoon. Officials said it was likely that the act was related to Talvivaara's extraordinary general meeting that was being held on Friday in Helsinki, where protesters gathered outside the venue to show their displeasure at the company's poor environmental record.

A leak at Talvivaara’s Sotkamo facility in eastern Finland at the end of last year caused widespread environmental damage.

The extraordinary general meeting in Helsinki approved a share issue plan to secure extra funding. The company aims to gather 260 million euros to pay for its operations.
